To analyse hospitality education system in India;
To ascertain the requirements of Hospitality Employers;
To understand & identify the gap between vocational schools, University Teaching Departments & Employers expectations & fulfilment;
To examine lacunae in course structures, faculty development, Industry interface
To identify, compare & develop the hospitality management education practices in India with respect to developed nations;
To suggest timely measures to enhance the quality of hospitality education in India and offer it globally.

Report on workshop titled
"Application of Research in Tourism & Hospitality"
at
Himalayan Institute of Technology, Nehru Colony, Dehradun.
The Centre for Mountain Tourism and Hospitality Studies, HNB Garhwal University and Indian Hospitality Congress celebrated World Tourism Day (27 th September 2008) A one day workshop on 'Application of Research in Tourism and Hospitality' was organized as a part of celebrations (27 September 2008). The workshop was held at the Himalayan Institute of Technology – Nehru Colony, Dehradun.
Various delegates including faculty members from hotel management institutes across India attended the workshop. The inaugural session started with Prof. S.C Bagri, President, Indian Hospitality Congress' presidential address. Prof. Bagri said that the need of the hour is to excel in research in hospitality and tourism. Two international journals were released during the workshop, namely – Journal of Tourism – An International Journal < The first University Journal in tourism discipline being published internationally with University of Southern Mississippi USA> http://www.usm.edu/jot ; and International Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Systems– Aman Publications New Delhi <http://hotelmgmt.tripod.com>. Ashish Dahiya – Jt. Secretary presented the annual report of IHC, while B.P Sharma, Director Operations – Himalayan Institute of Technology in his speech focused on the current theme of 'Tourism responding to the Climate Change.'
The first session of the workshop focused on 'Qualitative Research in Tourism and Hospitality.' Prof. Bagri focused on the scope and need of qualitative research. Methods and parameters to conduct qualitative research ethically were also discussed. The session highlighted the thrust areas for qualitative research for all in terms of academicians, industry and young learners. In the second session Dr. Surekha Rana, from Guurukul Kangri University, Haridwar focused on quantitative aspect of research. Dr. Rana further focused on report writing and contribution in research journals. Various styles of referencing, types of articles were shown to the delegates. Pushkar Negi gave a vote of thanks and the delegates were presented with a certificate in the end. The programme was coordinated by Yashpal Negi. About twelve institutes across the country attended the workshop.
